IDEX Pump Technologies Empowers Independence for Autistic Young People

With a $40,000 USD contribution from the IDEX Foundation and over 100 volunteer hours, employees of IDEX Pump Technologies (IPTI) have again played a crucial role in renovating facilities important to a non-profit organization for autistic young people.

Like our IPTI team, Dochas is based in Shannon, Ireland, creating opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum, ages 5 to 28.

Central to this partnership are the newly developed Printing Studio and Sensory Room. The Printing Studio is a space where Dochas members can acquire new skills. Here, members can design flyers and other printed materials, providing a practical environment for learning, development, and future job opportunities. The Sensory Room offers a tranquil setting designed to help members find calm and ease anxiety.

With participation from over 75% of employees across various departments, IPTI’s contributions extend beyond just the Printing Studio and Sensory Room. Previous projects include a music room to support speech development, a Life Skills Room for cooking lessons, and an occupational therapy room for improved physical coordination. The Life Skills Room features the Dochas Café, which employs 12 members responsible for serving, waiting tables, and baking.

Together, these initiatives foster practical training for real-life situations, helping members build skills in punctuality, professionalism, and communication, ultimately easing their transition into the workforce.

Since 2018, IPTI’s collaboration with Dochas showcases how anyone can make a difference. By creating environments that promote growth and self-sufficiency, they empower individuals on the spectrum to lead fulfilling lives, demonstrating the significant impact businesses can have on their communities.
